19 of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one titles have been won on hard surfaces

A comeback Medvedev secured his maiden trophy for nearly 30 months with success over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

Medvedev, a ex- top-ranked player, has experienced a challenging year, achieving just a single victory at the big events and undergoing a meltdown at the New York tournament.

His inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and issues with his serving in specific - caused him exiting of the top ten and eventually splitting with long-term coach Gilles Cervara.

Currently training with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, he has steadily improved in the last few weeks - culminating in a closely contested three-set win over challenger Moutet.

It is the player's maiden trophy since the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hard surface from March of 2023.

Victory also indicates he has won twenty-one championships at 21 different events.

"For the first time I have attended a competition with my children together, so to secure a title is really nice," stated ranked player the champion.

"This championship is in dedication of my second daughter her name, because the first title I achieved when my first daughter my daughter was born was for her."

The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his previous six finals, including in the German tournament earlier this year.

Medvedev's retrieving approach and regular outbursts on court had caused observers to question if his ability to compete at the top level was over.

But the athlete has altered his approach in the past month, striving to come to the net and perform positively, supported by an enhanced serve.

He recovered from a disadvantage in the opening set against the challenging Moutet, winning four of the last five games to take the lead.

The pair traded breaks in the second set before the challenger, attempting for his initial professional victory, gained dominance to create a decider.

Moutet rescued 4 early-game break points in a close deciding set before the champion won the break to 15 to close out the victory.

Appropriately, the winner secured the title with a rally at the net, with the Frenchman failing to handle a volley after over two and a half hours.
